Republished by Blog Post Promoter
According to the Hindu Philosophy every human being born is influenced by the vibrations of nine planets (Nava Grahas).
It is believed that all good and bad things are due to the effects of these nine planets.
Each planet has its own vibration and has a separate place in each of their temples.
When we visit these temples, we are saved from bad things or incidents, by the blessings of these planets.
Hence, worshipping the Navagraha is considered to be sacred and essential too.
Important Navagraha Temples are:-

“Vinayaka chathurti” is one among the most celebrated festivals of Chennai (of course not as elaborately as the city of Mumbai)
Celebrating our good old friend Lord Ganesha’s birthday is always very important to Chennai-ites.
No one really knows how it all started but we are all happy that it started, most importantly because we get a day off on the 11th day and get to enjoy the big processions that take place.
If you were to have a aerial view of the city on the 11thd day, all roads will lead to Marina Beach
On the Ganesha Chathurthi day, large idols of Ganesha made from clay or paper is worshiped at the local temples on raised platforms with elaborately decorated halls or Tents. Smaller sized Ganeshas of clay are worshiped at homes.
On these 10 day long celebration be assured that you will get 16 varities of prasadam from any of the outdoor make-shift Ganesha temples across Chennai.
The 11th day is the most excitement filled day, when groups from different part of the city join in the procession with their large, small, medium, micro small etc Ganesha Idols to be dipped into the waters of Marina beach
The dancing, singing and prasad is what I am personally interested in

I took part in the process last year. We transported our Ganesha friend in a tractor trailer all the way from Annanagar… looking forward for more fun this year too…
Meanwhile, Wish you all a very happy happy Ganesh Chathurthi celebration…

Birth of Lord Ganesha?
Traditional stories tell that Lord Ganesha was created by goddess Parvati, consort of Lord Shiva. Parvati created Ganesha out of sandalwood paste that she used for her bath and breathed life into the figure. She then set him to stand guard at her door while she bathed. However, while she bathed, Lord Shiva returned and as Ganesha didn’t know him, he didn’t allow him to enter. Lord Shiva became enraged and severed the head of the child and entered his house. After realizing that he had beheaded his own son, Lord Shiva fixed the head of an elephant (in some versions, Airavata, the vehicle of the god Indra) in place of Ganesha’s head. In this way, Lord Ganesha came to be depicted as the elephant-headed God.
Son of: Lord Shiva and Parvati
Brother: Kartikeya
Other names: Vinayaka, Ganesa , Ganesh, Ganapati, Pille or Pillaiyar in Tamil language. In kannada Kadubu raya, Yeka danta, Vigna vinashaka.
Mantra: Om Ganesaya Namah
Weapons: Parasu (Axe),Pasa (Lasso),Ankusa (Hook)
Consort: Buddhi (wisdom),Riddhi (prosperity),Siddhi (attainment)

Ganesh Chaturthi is the celebration of the birth of Ganesh. It is also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi in Sanskrit, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu.
The festival is observed in the Hindu calendar month of Bhaadrapada, starting on the shukla chaturthi (fourth day of the waxing moon period).
Ganesh Chaturthi held in all over India, it is at its most elaborate in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, and other areas which were former states of the Maratha Empire.
The celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi continue to odd number of days like five, seven, or ten days. Some even stretch it to twenty one days, but ten the most popularly celebrated.
Ganesha is invited with a special phrase and with material and verbal offerings, the puja begins. It involves the panchamrut (five nectars), which includes milk, curd, ghee, honey and jaggery, with which the god’s icon is bathed, cleansing in between with water.

Together with Kashi, Rameswaram is considered to be one of the holiest places in India to Hindus, and part of the Char Dham pilgrimages.
.
According to legend, this is the place from where Lord Rama built a bridge Ram Setu (also known as Adam’s Bridge) across the sea to Lanka to rescue his consort Sita from her abductor Ravana.
Both the Vaishnavites and Shaivites visit this pilgrimage centre which is known as the Varanasi of the south.
.
The religious island is spread in an area of 61.8 square kilometres and happens to be in the shape of a conch.
.
The Ramanatha Swamy Temple occupies major area of Rameshwaram.
The beach of Rameswaram is famous for its beautiful sea featured with no waves at all.
.
The sea waves rise to a maximum height of 3 cm and the view looks like a very big river.
.
Legend has it that Lord Ram of Ramayana prayed to the sea god to pave the way for Lanka.
The sea god granted a boon saying that he will make the sea waves less to aid him in building a rock bridge.
